The History of the NAACP

The history of the NAACP is closely tied to the history of the civil rights movement in this country.  Through decades of adversity and the sacrifice of countless good men and women of all races, young and old, the NAACP has evolved into a social and political force of tremendous magnitude. Certainly a socio-political force to be reckoned with, as the media, government and our communities have come to realize. Historically, the  Fort Lauderdale branch has always been at the forefront of civil rights and minority rights in the South Florida area, as well as active participation and leadership roles on the state and national level.

The Fort Lauderdale NAACP continues to make history with it's activist work in election reform, educational reformation, job discrimination in both the government and private sectors, increased opportunities for our youth, police and justice department abuses, civil rights and a host of other issues critical to the future growth and well being of the black and minority communities. The pages that follow in this section will give you some details about the history of the NAACP from both and local and national perspective.

(This is a great place to take your kids to explain the history of the civil rights movement and the NAACP's history)
