Health Issues and the Minority Community

All the freedom and justice in the universe means nothing without the good health to enjoy such rights. Statistically, Black Americans have less insurance coverage than the national average, and community access to quality health care is all too often lacking. Black men suffer from heart attacks at a nearly 50% higher rate than the national average for men. Black women suffer from higher rates of breast cancer, deficiency diseases and pre-natal distress than the national average.

This is not all due to the inability for so many black people to attain the level of quality health care they deserve in this, the wealthiest of nations.  Much of this is also due to cultural factors in diet and exercise, and more of than than not, a lack of access to accurate health information.

The NAACP is committed to assisting the community in getting the health care and health education needed for a long life focused on wellness as opposed to illness. Check back for articles being developed on these issues as well as links to resources on the web that provide accurate health educational articles, medical & health reference, and news reports.
