PARENTING IN THE 21st CENTURY

As critical as education is, we feel that the another critical factor in determining a child's future is often the "education" they receive at home, from their parents and family members as role models.  Yet even with the best of intentions, parenting is often a difficult and taxing role, and the answers to many situations and issues are often not immediately apparent.

Here's another situation where the World Wide Web offers us a tremendous variety of sites that provide free advice, information, counseling and other parenting resources to help us rear our most precious citizens today into the leaders of  tomorrow. The NAACP of Fort Lauderdale is hopes you find these sites of interest and assistance.*

General Parenting Web Portals

Parents Magazine Online - Although the full content of the monthly magazine is not reproduced here, there are still numerous articles for parents, online polls, specific advice for different age groups of children, and numerous free email newsletters covering just about every parenting topic you can think of.

Family Com - "Great ideas, practical advice, fun stuff to do..." is how they put it. We found the site to be quite extensive and chock full of helpful information and advice.  The activities section is very helpful and practical and the site in general is just well conceived and executed.

ChildFun Com - While this site does offer some advisory areas on Parenting issues, the main focus is on activities that Parents and their children can enjoy together.  Consider the site's byline, "Who Says Parenting Can't be Fun?"

Parent Clicks - "Trustworthy about your child's health, behavior, education, safety and well being" is how this extensive site describes itself. Excellent reference for children's product recalls that seems to be unique among parenting sites.

Child Com - The online counterpart to "Child Magazine", with fairly extensive areas devoted to parenting, lifestyle, family and a mothers with a "just for moms" category.

Children's Health

Healthy Kids - A very good general parenting portal with a distinct emphasis on children's health issues.

Kids Health - A well developed and highly informative site.  Divided into three sections; for parents, for kids and for teens. Each area was loaded with all sorts of information, interactivity and very often multimedia.

Virtual Children's Hospital - An international online children's health resource developed to meet the information needs of health professionals, caregivers, parents and patients.

MCW HealthLink: Children's Health - A constantly changing online resource on children's health issues from the Medical College of Wisconsin. Also links to other specialty areas like Aging, Alternative Medicine, Heart Disease, Cancer, etc.

The Fort Lauderdale NAACP is not affiliated with and does not endorse any of the sites indicated.  We are not responsible for the accuracy of the information provided on the web sites listed.  We simply provide these links to serve our community to the best of our ability.  In the case of health sites, no web site or informational resource can replace the opinions of a licensed health professional and these web sites are in no way intended to be an alternative to professional health care.
