Voter Empowerment

Increasing the voter power base of the minority communities and

preventing a repeat of the 2000 year voting violations.

The presidential elections of November 2000 were fraught with numerous questionable circumstances, including reports from various parts of Florida of Black voters being turned away from the polling places and police roadblocks along major thoroughfares leading to polling places in key minority communities. The Fort Lauderdale NAACP and the national leadership are committed to preventing these grievous violations of the hard earned and sacred right to participate in the democratic process through the power of "one man-one vote."

The Fort Lauderdale NAACP is an active supporter of the NAACP national platform of empowering the minority community through the action of voting in legitimate elections. We encourage all Americans to actively participate in the most important and fundamental facet of the democratic process - voting.

Check back regularly, especially as elections are approaching, for our programs to assist the community in registering and actually voting in all elections. We'll also include information about current candidates, their track record and platform, and how those relate to the minority community.
